Archaeological remains are 13,000 years old BC approximately (Lithic Period or Pre-agricultural). The Llanganuco Lake

It is formed by two lakes: Orconcocha Lake and Coroncocha Lake. There is a legend about the formation of Llanganuco Lake, this legend tells the history of Huascar and Huandy. Huandy (or Huandoy) was a pretty princess that was the daughter of the god Inti. At the age of 15 Inti wanted Huandy to marry with a very powerful god, as powerful as him, but in Yungay, lived a man, a mortal man, called Huascar. Huascar and Huandy were in love, when Inti knew about the love of his daughter and Huascar, he was too angry that he sentenced them to be separated, so the princess Huandy was tied on the extreme of a mountain, Huascar was tied in the other side, so they would cry their love. The "Pacha Mama" (mother earth) felt compassion for them and turned them into two big snow peaks, so they can cry their love forever. Their tears formed the Orconcocha and Coroncocha lakes, that together form the Llanganuco lake, a beautiful place to visit. The water of this lake is blue and crystal, and is also frost.

Flora: "Puya Raimondi", quenual, quisuar, orchids, etc.

Fauna: The most important is the trout, we also have th American Sparrow, etc.

Campo Santo Yungay

On may 31th of 1970, the town of Yungay was devastated by the Huascaran Snow peak, a giant ice block fall from the Huascaran and carried aeverything in its path to the city of Yungay, the fall was caused by an earthquake, all the city of Yungay was buried with almost all of its population. There were aproximately between 67 000 to 70 000 missing people in Yungay. Counting all Huaraz city there were approximately between 100 000 to 120 000 missing people. Afortunately there was a circus in a high part of the city and almost all kids went there, the avalanche didn´t reach the circus and because of that they could save their lives. Also, some people that could go up to the cementery saved their lifes.

There was a bus the day of the earthquake, The Ancash Express, that bus is in the "Campo Santo" (Saint Field), it is all destroyed. It is also an story of Maria Luisa Vergara, that was a mother and was in Yungay the day of the earthquake, she had a little daughter, she was about to get to the top of the cementery and save her life, but she got out of energy, her little daughter tried to help her to get up, but she looked at her daughter and said "Daughter leave me, run and save your life", the daughter did what her mother said and got saved, sadly her mother died on that earthquake, she couldn´t scape from the avalanche caused by the earthquake, the avalanche buried all Yungay city, that now is a very visited turistic place.

The priests had the knowledge of all the times of rain, sun, etc.. so they used this knowledge to peopleto carry offers to the gods or obey the things that they say with the excuse that if they didn´t do this, the gods will get angry and that will affect all the population

Chavin de Huantar

In Chavin two Ceremonial centers were built, the old temple of Chavin and the New Temple of Chavin.

The oldest is called the Old Temple of Chavin and was erected since the XII century, it was covering a sacred stone called th "Lanzón Monolítico"
